Chives, Common

220 seeds. Allium schoenoprasum. Perennial.

Common chives are a wonderful garnish that will make your soup, pasta, salad, or even tacos special. I like to add chives to miso soup just before serving. Chives have a light onion taste and are best eaten raw or lightly cooked. They are one of the first greens to come up in spring.

Chives have fluffy, purple flowers that attract pollinators to your garden. When spaced 9 inches apart, they create a low hedge. Deer resistant. Hardy to zones 3–9.

Height 15 inches. Spacing 9–12 inches.

Sowing Chives Seeds:

Sow seeds outdoors in spring. Or start indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost date. Barely cover the seeds with soil. Full sun.
