Okra 'Hill Country Red'

 50 seeds. 60-70 days. Abelmoschus esculentus. Tender perennial.

 

Okra 'Hill County Red' has wide, light green pods tinged with burgundy. The 5-foot tall plants and hibiscus-like flowers lend a tropical feel to the garden. Hill County Red is a southern Texas heirloom.

 

Pick okra pods at 3-5 inches long. Wear gloves to avoid slivers.

 

Height 5-6 feet. Spacing 15 inches.

 

Sowing Okra Seeds:

 

Soak seeds overnight. Sow seeds outdoors after the danger of frost is past, or start indoors 5 weeks before the last frost date. Sow 1/2 inch deep. Space 15 inches apart. Full sun.
