20 seeds. 110 days. Cucurbita maxima. Annual.
Squash 'Blue Hubbard' is a large storage variety with beautiful slate blue skin and fine orange textue. The fruits can weigh about 10 to 30 pounds. They have a thick skin that makes them ideal for long winter storage. This heirloom is originally from the West Indies.
Since Blue Hubbard is such a large squash, I like to bake it then freeze any extra squash for soup and pudding.
Sowing Squash Seeds:
Sow seeds in hills 1 inch deep after the last frost date. Space hills 4–6 feet apart. Thinned to 2 plants per hill. Full sun.
