Tomato 'Giant Crimson'

25 seeds. 85-90 days. Solanum lycopersicum. Indeterminate.

Tomato 'Giant Crimson' has beautiful bright red fruits with an old-fashioned flavor. The medium 5 to 8 ounce fruits look too perfect to be true! While the tomatoes are not as large as you may assume from the name, they are still a decent size. The flavor reminds me of tomato paste, but tomatoes that are underripe will have less flavor. Giant Crimson is a rare market tomato from the past.

I am estatic to be offering these seeds because of the story behind this tomato. The Giant Crimson tomato was thought to be extinct for 45 years, but it was put back into circulation when Luke Marion from MIGardener experimented with growing 85-year-old seeds found in a shadow box. Happily, he managed to get one plant to grow and started selling seeds a few years later. I got my original seeds from MIGardener, and I grow and harvest the seeds myself. Watch the incredible journey of this tomato on MIGardener's channel on YouTube.

Sowing Tomato Seeds:

Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date, 1/8 inch deep. Transplant outside 2 weeks after the last frost date. Plant tomatoes deep in the soil for a better root structure. Space 3 feet apart. Full sun.
